XL Gallery presents new exhibition of Alexander Povzner entitled Ermitage. Within that global tragic context, the artist deliberately did not accompony his large-format enigmatic works with any explications and insisted on the curators followed suit.

Alexander Povzner is an artist and sculptor from a Moscow artistic family (Soviet and Russian nonconformist artist Lev Povzner and sculptor Valeria Dobrokhotova). Having received an academic education — first at the Russian Academy of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, and then at the Moscow State Art Institute named after V.I.Surikov — and having passed his own unique path of creative development, Povzner became one of the main actors in the modern Russian art scene.
