TIME CAN'T BE TOUCHED, BUT IT CAN BE FELT

The word "stasis" is translated from Greek as "standing still". Since ancient times, art has helped to "stop the moment", to fix the elusive time.

Mankind is constantly searching for new ways of displaying reality. Thus, in the 60s of the XIX century Impressionists made a revolution in painting, calling to capture the fleeting states of nature and brief moments of contemplation. Photography and video shooting provided an opportunity to document what was happening. Contemporary art is not left aside from the problem of the transience of time.

Alexey Andreyev, Yulia Lenina and Stepan Artov are developing this topic in the works that will be presented at the Stasis exhibition from December 3, 2019 to January 17, 2020 in ARTIS GALLERY.

Alexey Andreyev creates works in the technique of digital painting - the process of creating digital art is completely devoid of such inconveniences as slow drying of paint, which allows you to instantly see the result. In his works he returns to childhood memories and dreams, experiences them again and captures certain states of perception that he once experienced. His creative method is close to surrealism, because when creating phantasmagoric plots the artist is guided by intuitive, subconscious feelings, rather than intellectual analysis. With the help of augmented reality technology and a special application, static images "come to life" on the smartphone screen, which gives viewers the opportunity to live through the same stories many times.

Pictures by Julia Lenina are created in traditional painting technique. Oil paints in combination with mastichine enable the artist to create whimsical mixtures of paints and subtle color transitions. The abstraction is free from plots and characters, and therefore is not outdated and always remains relevant. Abstract art has stopped time because it exists outside its framework.

Stepan Artov considers the problem of human perception of time through the prism of cyber-futurism. He is convinced that in the future people's lives will be inextricably linked to artificial intelligence, and we need to learn how to interact with cyber-organisms and understand the meaning of the messages sent. "The artist's Crypto-Flover is a representative of the robotic civilization. According to the author's idea, a robot flower feeds on positive energy, which it receives from smiles. Having accumulated a sufficient amount of positive charge, "Krypto-flover" will be able to reproduce a similar, which is an analogy of the cycle of human life.
