The main goal of the course "Bible Plots in Art" is to acquaint students with the history and structure of the Bible and the iconography of the main plots of the Old and New Testament; teach to “read” biblical scenes in works of easel, monumental painting and temple sculpture using examples of Russian and Western European art.
The course includes 6 lectures and 1 retreat in the halls of the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts. Pushkin duration of 3 hours with a break for a coffee break. Classes are held once a week on weekdays from 11.00 to 14.00. Cost - 31 000 rub.
Program:
1. Bible text. History, archeology and geography.
2. Metamorphosis of the figurative language of the first centuries of Christianity.
3. Apostles and the first Christian martyrs.
4. The Bible for the illiterate. What and how to read in a Christian temple. Catholic church and Orthodox church.
5. Old Testament heroes and plots.
6. The main images of Christianity: the image of Christ and Our Lady in European art.
7. Meeting in the halls of the Pushkin Museum.
