CCA Winzavod presents a catalog book for the exhibition "What are you afraid of?". The first part of the book is a catalog, and the second part, a reflection– consists of research articles examining the phenomenon of fears and anxieties through the prism of various humanitarian disciplines. The publication was prepared within the framework of the Vinzavod direction. Gravity, which aims to collect an anthology of contemporary art.
The author and compiler of the book is Daria Pyrkina, PhD in Art History, curator, researcher. The articles were prepared by Andrei Moroz, a folklorist, Doctor of Philology; Grigory Bakus, a medieval historian, specialist in demonology in the Western European Middle Ages and early Modern times; Dmitry Komm, a film critic; Alexey Lyzlov, a specialist in philosophy and psychology, candidate of psychological Sciences, translator of S. Kierkegaard.
"Fear as an existential phenomenon in philosophy, the practice of dealing with frightening things in folklore, the "dark" Middle Ages filled with chimeras, and finally, horror films as a phenomenon of modern culture — fear invariably accompanies human existence. In their articles, experts from various fields of knowledge analyzed the traditions of dealing with images of the frightening and intimidating, reflected on the mechanisms of anxiety and ways of living it in rituals, everyday practices and works of art," Daria Pyrkina.
