PREMIERE OF THE CATALOG BOOK "Scientific RESEARCH INSTITUTE Archive. Renovation"

12 December 2024
Victor Misiano, Dmitry Bulatov, Roman Romanov and other authors in the new catalog book for the exhibition "Scientific Research Institute Archive. Renovation". The book consists of two parts: a research paper on the role of archives in cultural institutions and international practice, and an exhibition catalog with rare photographs from the archive of the Vinzavod Foundation, texts for projects, and a photo collection of art. The catalog book can be purchased at the information point at the entrance to the exhibition in the Krasny Workshop and in the online store at the link. Victor Misiano, curator, theorist and founder of the Art Magazine, and curator of the NII Archive exhibition, prepared his articles for the book. Remontage" by Irina Gorlova, the book also includes interviews with Sofia Trotsenko, founder of the CCA Winzavod, Roman Romanov, director of the GULAG History Museum, and Dmitry Bulatov, curator and theorist. "There is no phrase more insidious than "all in good time." Every time we discussed the idea of creating an archive, it seemed to us that the time had not yet come for this, that everything was ahead. With this feeling of "ahead", 17 years of the life of one of the largest art clusters in the country flew by unnoticed, and the events of those years remained more in memories than in documents. Many heroes of modern art have passed into eternity, technology has changed with incredible speed — many of the evidence can no longer be reached, original materials, source files, electronic access, etc. have been partially lost," says Irina Saminskaya, head of the Archive Research Institute Department. The publication was prepared within the framework of the Archive Research Institute, the purpose of which is to systematize and research the materials and knowledge accumulated during the work of the CCA Winzavod on the history of Russian contemporary art, introducing them into general cultural and historical contexts. The exhibition "Scientific Research Institute Archive. Remontage", under the supervision of Irina Gorlova, opened a new branch of the institution — the Archive Research Institute (Science, Research, Art, Archive) — and for the first time presented archival materials that have been collected over 17 years of active activity of the Central Research Institute Vinzavod. The exhibition features a photo chronicle of epoch-making exhibitions, vernissages, festivals, rare catalogues, installations, specially recreated works for the exhibition and selected works from the collection of the Winery Foundation. The last day of the exhibition is January 19, 2025. Learn more about the authors: Irina Gorlova, editor-compiler of the book, curator of the exhibition "Scientific Research Institute Archive.
