Group project
Great chaos

In December, the HSE School of Design will present the Great Disorder Exhibition, a largescale project bringing together artists, designers, researchers and teachers who reflect on chaos as one of the fundamental forms of the world's existence. The Big Exhibition is an annual format that the School of Design has been holding since 2021. Each of the exhibitions is dedicated to a "big theme" that students, graduates, and teachers of all fields are working on. This year, for the first time, not only students, graduates and teachers of the School of Design, but also independent authors could take part in the open call. The competition was held on the art.mediia platform, a space created in partnership with the School of Design, where contemporary artists and curators post their projects, art historians publish research, and critics review cultural events. The concept of vystvaki "The Great Disorder" refers to the phenomenon of chaos philosophical, physical, cultural and human. If in Greek mythology chaos was understood as a disordered primordial substance from which the world emerged, then modern thinkers see it as the basis for continuous processes of change, decay and renewal. The authors of the exhibition propose to consider disorder not as destruction, but as an engine of evolution a space of becoming and a source of energy. In our Big Exhibition, we would like to talk about the different attitudes and the countless forms that disorder takes on the phenomenon of increasing entropy, everyday mess and impending global chaos, the fact that the universe tends to self—destruct or, perhaps, that chaos is the highest form of order. To show the full range of possible artistic interpretations, the exhibition highlights several semantic blocks around which the main themes of the exhibition unfold. Curators Alexandra Kuznetsova Head of the "Contemporary Art" department, academic director of the "Design" program, artist, curator.
