Collective Project
Regions. Nothing Happens

FineArt gallery presents the exhibition “Regions. Nothing Happens” — a collective project by the ES ART Society community, curated by Ekaterina Samitina. The exhibition offers an unexpected look at the contemporary artistic map of Russia: instead of high‑profile events and spectacular images, it captures the states that make up everyday life from Kamchatka to Crimea.

The project’s title sounds like a paradox: “nothing happens,” but it is precisely in this silence that the artists try to capture the rhythm of the country. The authors do not seek to capture “historical moments” — they are interested in pauses, waiting, observation, and getting used to routine. This is an attempt to see value in the ordinary and to give a voice to regions whose voices are often lost in high‑profile art discourse.

The curators deliberately dismantle the hierarchy of media: painting and graphics, textiles and object‑based works coexist in the same space. This approach emphasizes the equality of forms and materials and also blurs the boundaries between “high” art and applied creativity. Ultimately, the exhibition functions not as a collection of individual works, but as a single, multi‑layered narrative — a kind of festival that offers a snapshot of the regional art scene.

The overall structure of the project allows us to identify several thematic lines:
Landscape as a state. It’s not so much about geography as it is about the mood of the place: deserted courtyards, empty roads, interiors that seem to have been inhabited just recently.
Object and memory. Textiles, ceramics, found objects that bear the traces of time and everyday life.
Graphics and observation. A series of sketches capturing recurring details of urban and rural environments.

This selection of works creates the effect of a “slow gaze”: the exposure requires the viewer not to quickly flip through the pages, but to be present in a thoughtful manner.
