Arseny Vlasov
Summer Holidays

Fineart Gallery is returning with its long-standing series of exhibitions under the general title “Summer Holidays”. This year the gallery offers to spend the holidays with the work of Arseny Vlasov, who is known for his synthesis of pop art and new media.

Arseny Vlasov’s exhibition is an eclectic, ironic and bold combination of pop art, surrealism and elements of kitsch. The author works with familiar images of mass culture, placing recognizable characters in deliberately clipped, clichéd plots. The artist's early work was influenced by Aubrey Beardsley's graphics, but today his main artistic method is the manual imitation of digital effects on canvas.

The exhibition's storylines revolve around the so-called "vagabond beauties" and mass templates. Vlasov uses ready-made images fr om digital photo banks, such as athletes, antique furniture, beach accessories, and glossy advertisements, and combines them in a classic still life style, "assembled from fragments of real life."

Vlasov's connection to the aesthetics of kitsch is not a coincidence, but a deliberate tool. By exploring "low" genres, advertising, and amateur photography, the artist creates multi-layered works that blur the line between the strict "aesthetics of the mind" and the emotional "aesthetics of the heart."

Arseny Vlasov was born in Yaroslavl in 1984. His artistic talent was evident from an early age, as he had his first solo exhibition at the age of nine and completed his art school education at the age of twelve. At the age of 19, Vlasov debuted a personal project in Moscow, wh ere he has been living and working since 2002. In his youth, he was professionally involved in lawn tennis, which formed perfectionism and determination in him. From 2012 to 2015, he was the curator of the federal project "Art Square".

The artist has more than 60 solo exhibitions around the world (Moscow, New York, Paris, London, Tokyo). Arseny Vlasov's works are in the collections of the State Tretyakov Gallery, the Yaroslavl Art Museum, the Z. Tsereteli Museum of Contemporary Art, and in the largest private collections in Russia, the USA, Germany, China, Japan, France, and among world celebrities, including Madonna, Takeshi Kitano, and Angelina Jolie.
