Egor Koshelev
Gryphonage

VLADEY presents Egor Koshelev's solo exhibition Gryphonage.

Gryphonage is an almost unconscious improvisation on paper, drawings which are akin to automatic writing. Since the time of Rembrandt, Italian Baroque cartoonists, masters of French Rococo, such graphics allow you to create beautiful garlands of images. It helps to demonstrate to the artist filigree changes of states, capriccio styles. Egor Koshelev is almost the only master who is fervently involved in a dialogue with the most whimsical intricate plots of ancient art. It is he who can reveal in these plots the intentions of the latest aesthetics of the cascade of changing images, from comics to NFT. At the exhibition of the VLADEY Space gallery, Koshelev's graphic works enter into a dialogue with the engravings of the Rococo artist of the first half of the XVIII century. The conversation will be conducted with the Englishman William Hogarth.

In his graphics, Egor Koshelev seems to accept the idea of linking everything with everything according to the law of infinite variability, but subject to the rules of strict artistic discipline. His gryphonage is flexible arabesques and grotesques, in which the entire world culture sprouts in each other like changeable visions, as if woven according to the recipes of Hogarth's undulating serpentine "line of beauty". However, Egor Koshelev has a new emotion that the anti-romantic Hogarth did not know. This is MELANCHOLY – humility before the same old man with wings and a scythe, Chronos, who was ridiculed in an engraving by an Englishman of the Enlightenment Century.
