Vasilisa Lipatova
Earthing

The Earthing Project is the debut of young Moscow artist Vasilisa Lipatova at the Fine Art Gallery.

Vasilisa graduated fr om the Stroganov Moscow State Pedagogical and Pedagogical University in the Department of Monumental and Decorative Sculpture (2010) and "Free Workshops" (2019-2020). In her works she uses the language of modern sculpture, which acts as the main material for telling about fantasy worlds, both close to us and far from us. These can be bizarre miniatures from the series "Gariboriki. Splits", as if depicting landscapes of other planets. They are also complex, woven from a peculiar grid, "Objects of cosmic parallel": clouds, nebulae and other intangible elements of celestial spheres, which have become tangible sculptures in the human world. One of such works, "Clouds", added to the collection of the State Tretyakov Gallery.

Vasilisa Lipatova's art is an impression from her travels, one of her great passions; these are bionic and semi-abstract forms that adjoin elements of the familiar to us earthly subject world. They become a part of it, like things from the "Techno-Bio Objects" series. Like traces of the presence of another culture, they have grown into stone with incomprehensibly thin forms of some mechanisms or chips.

The artist perceives her sculptures as a part of a big project realized in the city space. Each of the small objects has the potential to grow without compromising the quality of the original thing. Vasilisa has made several successful steps in this direction. Together with Viktor Erdyneev two sculptures have been created: "Steering Wheel" (PKiO "Fili", August 2013, Moscow) and "Gate: the procession" (Sofrino 1, July 2018, Moscow region).

Vasilisa Lipatova enters the territory of the painting as part of the "Grounding" project. The round canvases presented at the exhibition were created by the artist during the recent period of self-isolation. Each canvas is the result of automatic writing, work in isolation from a particular concept. "It is a kind of grounding as a deliberate desire to embody in form and space an idea that manifests itself on a sensual level," the artist comments. She compares the process of creating these canvases to the state we know from children's games - a complete immersion in another world free from conventionality. The canvases turn out to be a kind of mediator between fantasy and everyday life, joining together in Vasilisa Lipatova's work once again. The project "Earthworks" invites you to see the multi-faceted structure of life through the symbiosis of the man-caused with the natural, familiar and non-native. It is a wonderful world wh ere ideas float around in a shimmering cloud, and we feel that they are much closer to us than we used to think.
