Alexander Chistov:

"My latest work on borders. Borders, both internal and external. I tried to understand how today the delimitation of human territories can be ensured and justified. Not only the pandemic, but, in the wake of it, a strong sense of anxiety and distrust contributed to making security a new norm, and I believe the process began much earlier.

The reason, as it seems to me, is that globalization of human life activity, incredible possibilities of transport and media changed optics, gave people an opportunity to see not only the limits of the planet, but also almost the universe.

In fact, there are no pristine territories left in the world, and the distant one has turned into an endless repetition of the local one. The concept of "beyond", if one can say so, has disappeared.

But the world is not one, people are still not equal despite the recognition of social multitudes. And today, perhaps, with the transition of the policy of harmonization of public and personal interests from the social to the territorial plane, we can talk about the search for protection mechanisms that would provide a new balanced development on the scale of the entire human race.

The concept of the center and periphery today is even more blurred and undefined than it used to be, and the borders are quite vaguely marked. Here I think it is important that the periphery has the potential to revolt against the center, at least with the help of national prejudices and images that are now experiencing a peculiar rise.

Forced isolation, the epidemic has shifted the vector, and we all appeared as if guilty, but we are ready to answer for ourselves. The separation of one from another, forbidden and inaccessible territories, clearly defined access zones, fixed limits, it seems to me, may lead to the world falling into even greater extremes.

But are we so dangerous to each other?

I invited my colleague, the artist Yevgeniya Demina, whose works seem to me to be close to each other. Yevgenia will show her project "Orangery". And a very young artist Yulia Holtobina with her first work done in the genre of photo essays. We express our gratitude to Anahanum Esedullaeva for her graphic design of the exhibition".
