In this exhibition, Elena Popova continues to explore social and political issues through the language of her pictorial installations. This time, for the first time, she turns to "hypnotic abstraction," for which she uses computer code and repetitive circular motions.
On the creation - installation "This certifies that" - the artist was inspired by the story of the inventor and photographer Leon Warnerke. Using clear formal images: the euro banknote, as a symbol of a single economic zone, round repeating lines and algorithmic program code, generating an infinite number of images, the artist creates a mirror of our world: the hypnotic influence of which is exerted by capital.
A graduate of the Royal College of Art. Currently lives and works in Nottingham, UK. The key themes for both painterly and video works of the artist are questions of opposites, harmony and balance both from an aesthetic point of view, either in a metaphysical or political context. Elena Popova also experiments with pictorial materials.
